On March 29, 2024, a meeting was held between the director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Usmonzoda Khairiddin, and the parliamentary delegation of Georgia led by the chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Nikoloz Samkharadze.

The meeting was also attended by other officials of Georgian parliamentary committees, including the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs, member of the Committee on International Relations — David Matikashvili, Chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues, member of the Committee on International Relations — Irakli Kadagishvili, Temporary Verified in Affairs of Georgia, Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary — Georgiy Chendze and Senior Counselor of the Embassy of Georgia — Irakli Kandelaki.

First, the director of the Center for Scientific Research, Usmonzoda Khairiddin, welcomed the guests and gave brief information about the scientific and analytical activities of the Center.

The director called the visit of the Georgian parliamentary delegation very symbolic, since this year marks the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In turn, the Chairman of the Committee on International Relations of the Parliament of Georgia Nikoloz Samkharadze expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and provided brief information about the directions of the committee’s activities. It was emphasized that this is the first visit of a delegation of the Georgian parliament to Tajikistan, and its purpose is to familiarize itself with the opportunities and economic potential of Tajikistan, as well as restore and expand relations with Tajik partners.

During the meeting, the Georgian guests asked questions on four main issues related to Tajikistan: the country’s ability to transition to green energy, the country’s agricultural potential, security issues in the context of the situation in Afghanistan and the country’s transit potential. The Director of the Center gave a complete, reasoned answer to all questions of interest to the Georgian delegation.

Continuing the meeting, the parties also expressed a desire to restore and develop scientific and analytical cooperation between research centers of both countries.

The meeting was held in the spirit of sincerity, mutual understanding and constructive dialogue.
